Celebrating Raksha Bandhan in Various Parts in India
RAKSHA BANDHAN FESTIVAL : Raksha Bandhan is an anually festival celebrated in India ,as Raksha bandhan shows the true bond and love between brother and sister.The name Raksha Bandhan means “the bond of protection”. Raksha bandhan is also known as Rakhi. During the festival, sisters tie a rakhi (a holy thread) around their brother’s wrist. The brother in return promise his sister to look after her at any conditions, and offers her a gift.
According to Indian mythology,Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in Shravana month during full moon day or Purnima day.
History of Raksha Bandhan :
According to Indian mythology,There are manys stories on Raksha bandhan which shows the bond of protection.According to another legend, the ritual of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated between yanma and yamuna.Yama was the god of death while yamuna,the river flow in India.When Yamuna tied a rakhi to Yama, the lord of death granted her life immortality.This story shows the true bond between brother and sister and declared that any brothers who promise to protect his sisters will become immortality.
Another story came from History between Rani Karnavati and Emperor Humayun. Karnavati was the official of Mewar after the death of her husband Rana Sanga She ruled in the name of her elder son Vikramjeet. Bahadur shah, the kings of Gujarat declared war to Mewar and Rani knew that she and her army cannot protect the Mewer.So she looking for supports from another kingdom.She send rakhi to humayun,an mughual kings and ask him for helps for the sake of rakhi.Humayun turned his army towards Mewar.Humayun was late to helps his sister but he wins Mewar again and restored the kingdom.He declared Karanvati’s son,vikramjit to King of Mewar.There are many mythology stories that shows the true bond between brother and sister.

In Raskha bandhan ,Rakhi are usually made from a few colorful cotton or silk threads, or sometimes from silver and gold threads, the rakhi symbolizes protection against evil during the coming year.Sometimes,sisters makes rakhi from his own hands to show thier love towards their brothers.Every years,Schools organized a competiton for students to celebratesthis festival,and all the rakhi are sends to the soilders at border show that they can also celebrate this functions.In differents states, the methods to celebration is also differents .In the Easten state like ,West bengal and Odisha, this festival is also know and called Jhulan Purnima. They Prayers and puja of Lord Krishna and Radha are performed there. Sisters tie rakhi to brothers and wish immortality.
Political parties, offices, friends, schools to colleges, street to palace celebrate this day with a new hope for a good relationship.In Maharashtra, the festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated along with Narali Poornima also known as coconut day festival. The fishermen offer prayers to Lord Varuna, the Hindu god of Sea, to invoke his blessings. As part of the rituals, coconuts were thrown into the sea as offerings to Lord Varuna. The girls and women tie rakhi on their brother’s wrist.Raksha bandhan is also celebrated in Nepal.In Nepal, Raksha Bandhan is referred to as Janai Purnima or Rishitarpani, and involves a sacred thread ceremony. It is observed by both Hindus and Buddhists of Nepal. The Hindu men change the thread they wear around their chests.This methods is called as janai, while in some parts of Nepal girls and women tie rakhi on their brother’s wrists.
